During the “Star Wars” Celebration festival in Germany over the weekend,  Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced that composer John Williams will be returning for the latest installment of the Star Wars trilogy. Williams was a likely candidate, having composed for the previous six space-opera sagas, but there was doubt as JJ. Abrams (who has taken over Lucas) was rumoured to be favouring his own go-to music man Michael Giacchino.

However, it seems that Abrams was happy to rehire the Williams in order to continue the “Star Wars” legacy. Having won five Oscars, including the 1977 Oscar for Best Original Score for “A New Hope”, there’s no doubt he’s earned his stripes.

Star Wars: Episode VII, which is set to include a number of the saga’s original cast members including Carrie Fisher, is slated for release in 2015.
